Jay's Cycle Center started as a pet shop called Pet Land in Scotch Plains, New Jersey,
in the early 1950s.
 
A particularly persistent bicycle sales rep finally convinced the owners to give some counter space to small bicycle accessories, which to their surprise sold quite quickly.

Sensing a potential opportunity in the bicycle industry, and tired of cleaning tanks and cages, Big Jay and Mrs. Jay drove to a NYC wholesaler and returned with a dozen bicycles.

Business flourished and within a few years they had bicycle stores in Plainfield, Westfield, and Scotch Plains. Raising two children and running multiple stores, it soon became obvious they had to consolidate. Rather than sell the two children,
they sold two stores, and made Westfield the home of Jay's Cycle Center.

After sixty plus years serving the Westfield area and beyond, we continue to grow
and meet the needs of our highly valued customers.
