Group Rides are Wednesday Nights!

Our annual Long Beach Island Century Ride on June 1 is fast approaching, and we need to get a head count to assure that we can get everyone back from the shore. Please RSVP to this address to let us know if you're coming and if you will need a ride back. If you have a ride back and can take extra people, please let us know that too. Even if you've told us verbally that you're riding, please send an e-mail to confirm it.

We will leave from Jay's Cycle at 7 a.m. sharp on Sunday morning. The first 50 miles will be flat and we'll roll at a gentle pace, keeping the whole group together. We'll make a quick stop in Kingston for fluids, and then a long stop in Allentown at Hoffman's Bake Shop for pastries. After the break, the pace will pick up quite a bit, and we'll break into a few smaller groups. Before crossing the causeway we'll try to regroup as much as possible with the SAG vehicles to cross the bridge safely en masse.

After the finish at Jay's shore house, we'll have pizza and beverages and celebrate for the remainder of the afternoon. Feel free to visit the beach or hang out at the house. There are showers available, but please be quick and considerate, as there will be plenty of others waiting in line. You can leave a bag of clean clothes and a towel at the shop in the morning, and we'll transport it down for you and have it waiting when you arrive.

The only fee for this ride is a $20 contribution to support The Arc of Union County, a local organization that aids the families of children with developmental disorders.

We're looking forward to another fun LBI ride - we hope you can join us!

Please join us Wednesday nights for a group ride! We ride weekly during daylight savings time. There are always plenty of riders to meet, and you might even learn some new riding routes!

We will meet at 6:00 p.m. behind Jay’s Cycle Center (on the Elmer Street side), and try to get on the road no later than 6:15. Please come prepared. If your bike needs service, plan for it in advance with our repair staff, as we will not be able to do much service work at that time. Water, Powerbars and Powergels are available at the store if you need any. We will have route maps available if you would like one. Feel free to park in our lot if you drive to Westfield. There is also metered parking available behind the store, although please play it safe and pay the meter through 8:00 pm.

As always, we will try to ride as far as we can before dusk, so it is likely that we will be finishing in fading light. Please bring a flashing taillight if you have one. If not, we have them for sale at the shop. LED headlights are also a good idea.

The ride will start with a flat warmup through side streets of Westfield, Garwood, and Cranford. Then we will venture up into Watchung Reservation, where we will rendezvous after our first climb. We will divide the ride into 2 or more groups at that point: the "A" group will continue with a target pace of 17-20 mph, and the "B" group will be 14-17 mph. Both rides will follow the same course, so if you start with the "A" group and get dropped, you can wait a minute or two for the "B" group to catch you. After joining us for a few rides, you will easily be able to pick up on the various routes that we venture on. Also, be sure to contact us and ask to join our group ride mailing list for up to date e-mails about upcoming Jays Cycle Center rides and events. You’ll receive information about our annual “Ride to LBI”, and other group events that you can join in on.

So come on out and join us! For safety reasons, rain cancels the ride. But cold weather or warm, if the roads are dry we’re riding! Hope to see you there!
